Dialogue 2023
The 29th Dialogue Conference was held from June 14 to 16, 2023 in an online format. The choice of this format is due to the fact that today the Dialogue community – more than two hundred permanent participants, about one hundred reviewers – is extraterritorial, representing universities and high-tech companies from all over the world.
72 reports were accepted into the conference program, four technological competitions were held, two volumes of conference materials were published, and two round tables were held.
Great interest was aroused by the round table “All you need to know about the ChatGPT Tsunami”, which discussed the importance of the ChatGPT model for computational linguistics and NLP, the possibility of its non-corporate scientific use. The speakers – Tatyana Shavrina, Sergey Sharov, Sergey Markov, Mikhail Burtsev – considered various aspects related to the emergence of new generative language models, risks, prospects for their application, forecasts of further development.
The “Brave New World and Dialogue” round table was dedicated to positioning the conference in new dramatic circumstances combining internal technological and external geopolitical challenges. The most important tasks have been identified:
– maintaining ties with the academic world community, of which the Dialogue community is a part;
– preservation of this community itself in the context of a new geographical distribution of its members;
– unconditional preservation of the unique interdisciplinary traditions of Dialogue and its informal status as the world’s leading forum on the problems of the analysis of the Russian Federation in all its fullness of genre-thematic, modal and sociolinguistic variants.
This year, the Dialogue received a particularly important assessment from the participants as an “island of stability” in our unstable world.
